The following letter was penned by a past Client and great friend. It goes without saying, he and his family have the strength to see the light in each and every day. With his permission, I hope you enjoy his words of wisdom.
I wish you and your family a blessed 2011.
Just what does that mean? Being blessed may have nothing to do with money, success, results, clarity of life’s purpose or anything else. Being blessed may simply mean that your needs are met and that you choose happiness regardless of your current situation in life. It seems that in life, we are either currently in trouble, coming out of trouble or getting ready to get into trouble (this is usually when things are going best). We were never guaranteed to have a wonderful life where everything goes the way we want or that we will never experience hardship. Actually just the opposite is promised to us. We will experience disappointment so that we learn to appreciate things when they are good. We will experience loss so that we will appreciate what we have when we have it. We will experience financial challenges so that we will appreciate financial abundance. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This is a universal law or truth. What we bring to the table is as simple as a choice. What or how will we choose to deal with life as we live.
I have found, through our recent challenges in life, that I don’t love my wife or my family because of how much money I have or don’t have. I have good days and I have bad days making these choices. It is not easy to choose happiness or to be positive in the face if hardship but it is possible. I have felt abandoned by God and yet I have never felt closer to him than during these times. Always remember that ‘Things and Stuff” consist of atoms which are of this universe. It doesn’t matter how many atoms you have or what they make up, it is still just part of the universe which will be here long after we are gone. What really matters is what you can’t possess or own. You may have to make some hard choices but be thankful you have choices to make.
Work dillegently each day to keep your eye on the final prize. Continue to be the good person that you are to everyone you meet. Remember to appreciate what you have and who is in your life even during these trying times. If you need to feel better, imagine what could happen that would really make life unbearable and appreciate the fact that you are not facing that….it could always be worse than it is. If all else fails, read the book of Job, he really had it rough for a while but in the end he became the wealthiest man around in many ways.
There is no easy answer to the challenges of life. Your attitude will be tested, your resolve will be challenged, your foundations will crumble and need to be rebuilt. Chose to live life as best you can and always look ahead, not back at what could have been. You have many good attributes to draw from and the respect of everyone who knows you. You are not alone nor will you be the last one to face these challenges. Hold your head up and smile. Think positive and remember that you are not in control, you are just along for the ride. Enjoy the ride!
